I just thought I'd drop a note about he jackass award. I've seem people - new people - get PO'd and quit mounted shooting.
I know we don't want sore losers in mounted shooting but I'm sure it doesn't help a new rider get off to a good start when the club rubs it in!  Anyway - Just my opine!

Richard,
Thank you for your concern for the encouragement of new riders and integrity of our sport. While your point is valid,  the Jackass award is a intended for fun only;
and we take that into consideration when it is awarded (to only award it to people who can "take the joke"). It is NEVER given to a new competitor just getting into
our sport who may be having a hard time at a shoot.   We don't even consider new riders - or those who may take the award sensitively - to be eligible for the "Jackie".
You should also know that only our club members are eligible for it.  Our club is a very tight family and we have a strong camaraderie with each other -- meaning,
we encourage each other, laugh with each other, cry with each other over missed balloons, etc... So winning the Jackie is usually a very lighthearted and hilarious part
of our awards ceremony.

The Jackie trophy has become quite "famous" at Northwest shoots, and is joked about throughout the weekend (even if it is a shoot that is
not put on by our club).   Some have said "well, I am out of the running because I missed so many balloons, so maybe I can at least win the Jackie!!!!"

I do hope this has answered any question in your mind about the meaning and intention of the Jackass award, and that it would absolutely never be used to "rub it in".  Our goal as a
club is to first promote CMSA to the highest professional standards possible, encourage new members to push forward,  and to strive for bigger and better each year.
