WASHINGTON
STATE MOUNTED SHOOTERS 2005
JACKIES |
November 12 Grand Finale Shootout - Moses Lake, WA This Jackie is not only special because it is awarded to a long term veteran of mounted shooting (who should know better), but also because it will remain in the hands of this winner all winter as the Grand Finale shoot was the last one of the 2005 season. The coveted trophy will proudly live on the mantle for months until spring comes, as a bittersweet reminder of the fact that he was a winner at the Finale Shoot, but not that of the gold buckle. Oatmeal Graham has been a mounted shooter for years. More years than most in the Northwest. He knows how to ride, he knows how to shoot. He loves the rifle class, and shoots in the Cavalry class too. He knows how to handle the Wranglers, and his grandson... But Oatmeal does not know how to load his guns!!!! Lets just say it was a momentary lapse in memory. A senior moment if you will. |

October 1-2 Shootout at Hunter Creek - Ellensburg, WA ![]() This is a story about a lady we all know and love. Jamie Zueger. Jamie had the Ladies 1 division won. She had the buckle, the victory, the move up to a 2 with this win. All she had to do is get through stage 6 and ride like she had been all weekend... smooth and steady. We watched her glide through the first 5 targets on her little buckskin, turn a barrel, turn another barrel and then another to head down the rundown to her glory. With her arm stretched out straight, and her position poised in champion style, we saw her shoot the rundown, but heard nothing coming from the barrel of the .45. In true Zueger form, Jamie had [apparently] been taking advice from her husband, Mark, and pulled the empty gun from her holster!!!! In case you hadn't heard, Mark did this same thing at the last 2 shoots! She, at least, had enough sense to turn around at balloon #4 and go back for the targets that she had run past... something that we cannot say about Mark! This Jackie was awarded to Jamie, but is dedicated to both Zuegers! |
July 30-31 Mid Summer Jamboree -
Graham, WA
ROLAND RADTKE: Spotted in shorts and cowboy boots, tripping over a step while carrying a dutch oven full of dessert. Also seen levitating above, off to the side, and in front of his stout palomino while shooting a rundown. To his dismay, and our entertainment, (because he did not get hurt) the rundown ended with Roland buried in the sand as if he were on a beach in Mexico. The WSMS have a pool going to see how long it takes Roland to get all of the sand out of the cracks! |
July 2-4 Washington State Championship - Roslyn, WA July's Jackie was indeed a special one -- as it was decided that this one was worthy of a family instead of just one person. Tony and Kenda Lenseigne were chosen for the Jackie at the State Championship because between the two of them they racked up a broken collar bone and a dislocated foot. Way to go Lenseigne's -- keep up the good work! |

April 1 DEBUT SHOOT, MONROE, WA ![]() KAREN KLEIN, WINNER OF THE DEBUT SHOOT JACKIE Karen was presented the Jackie from Carrie, again, not only because Carrie is still making up for lost time of being a jackass before the award was created, but also because Cindi Ackerlund, recent past winner, could not be at the Debut Shoot. Karen was chosen to be the next Jackie because she managed to have her gunbelt fall off as she rode her way through stage 2. To her credit, however, she DID grab the belt from her lap and rode out the stage with the belt and empty gun in her rein hand - a stunt that would make any cowgirl proud and potentially make up for the folly. However, she then got lost on stage 6 and ended up with a procedural, so I suppose the credit and debit cancel each other out to make her the next WSMS JACKIE! |
March 12-13 SPRING WARM UP SHOOT, GRAHAM, WA ![]() Cindi Ackerlund, Winner of the first WSMS JACKIE AWARD Cindi was presented the award from previous Jackass, Carrie - who, even though the JACKIE award was not in existence, made a jackass of herself in some way at nearly every shoot in 2004. Cindi receives honors for being the first WSMS JACKIE for dropping guns (more than once), losing her hat, and somehow holstering her gun backward in the holster at the end of the rundown. No one really knows how this feat was accomplished - or how it CAN be accomplished, and so we congratulate her on her success! Cindi will be will be presenting the JACKIE to another lucky winner at the Debut Shoot in Monroe... so beware, Cindi will be watching you ! |
