WSMS JACKIE AWARD
What is the Jackie Award?

The WSMS JACKIE award is the most coveted trophy in The Washington State Mounted Shooters.
In order to win it, one must accomplish some feat unattainable by your average human being,  and go above and beyond the realm of human endeavor.
The JACKIE is a traveling trophy, shaped in the form of a horse's ass, and presented to the WSMS
member who dramatically overachieves in horsemanship or gun handling in some way.
One must earn the right to be a JACKIE!

Examples of eligibility:
Forgetting to holster or load a gun
Holstering, but drawing the same (empty) gun for the rundown
Falling off or staying on a horse in a creative way

and the list goes on...
Just  think of the exhilaration at a shoot, when someone hollers, "Yo, jackass!", and you, being a past winner,
get to turn around with all the other past winners and acknowledge the salutation!

REAL QUESTIONS ANSWERED ABOUT THE JACKIE AWARD

2005 JACKIES

2006 JACKIES
August 11-13
North Pacific Regional Championship
Goldendale, WA

This shoot marks a first.  It seemed everyone was on their best behavior at this match. All guns were loaded and stayed nestled in their holsters until needed, rear ends remained in the saddle, horses stayed calm and willing (for the most part).
What were we to do? Who will be the next Jackie?
Luckily, Dave Crandall saved the day. One of the Northwest's most loved hot rod rider and shooter brought his new horse to this match. You can see where this is going.
A few run aways here and there -- a lot of horsemanship tested and tried.  Just when we thought there was no home for the Jackie, stage 6 came along. Dave and his wild pony had a good one started, but soon into the pattern a tack malfunction - a broken rein - changed the course of Dave's future in the overall standings.   We all thought he was trying to do a victory lap, and some even thought they heard the sound effect of a NASCAR race as he circled the arena. The choice was clear from that moment on. We are proud of you Dave, welcome to the winner's circle!

June 30-July 2
Washington State CHampionship
Cashmere, WA

There were many worthy candidates for the Jackie at the State Championship... while Carrie Youngblood dropped her fully loaded rundown gun on stage 5, Jessica Anderson ate a dirt sandwich at the rundown barrel.   Lets not leave out Cashmere's own Zane Thackeray, who wiped out the arena in-gate as Kenda Lenseigne drew her empty gun after tossing her un-compliant hat into the air on a (thank goodness) time only run.

Despite all of this noteworthy activity, none were as qualified as Don Owens... a man with a choice less taken.  Don, like 2 of the brave and sure before him, followed suit in true cowboy mounted fashion and forgot to load his gun!
Way to keep the tradition of the last 2 Jackies, Don!
Oatmeal and Blue are proud to call you brother!

April 2006
Spring Warm Up Shoot

Coulee City, WA

Despite Oatmeal's valiant efforts to hang on to the Jackie for another shoot - by falling on a time only run and breaking his leg in 2 places - it was time for him to say goodbye to the horse's ass shaped award..... Afterall, he has been hogging it since November!

John Bunch, otherwise known as "Blue" was awarded the Jackie for, ahem, the same reason that Oatmeal won it!  Yes, he forgot to load his gun on the Rifle stage!
Congratulations, Blue!!
