This is a sport of athleticism, skill, and above all camaraderie. Most of us have joined this sport to enjoy the time we spend with our families and the new friends we make at each shoot. With that in mind we are still fierce competitors and being recognized for our hard earned achievements is momentous. Each of us has taken that first step of becoming a mounted shooter by nervously taking the first gun handed to us and asking for the 100^th time, “Now how do I run this pattern?”

We have all experienced the gut wrenching anticipation of hearing our names called as being the next in line to go out in front of the crowd and put on some kind of show or another – sometimes spectacular and sometimes hilarious.

It’s when you have that first stage where everything just seems to just click…it all comes together and you come out of the arena on cloud nine knowing your personal goals have been met. You have become a mounted shooter.

The 2006 High Point Winners have achieved that goal. They have mastered their own hurdles: my horse won’t go in the arena, I want to break a world record, I want one clean run, I want to go out and have fun.  The hurdles are different for each of us but the end result is still the same and here we honor our big fish in our small yet ever growing pond.
